Job purpose:

With the award of a new framework contract, this role is at the very front of what we do, providing connections for industrial, commercial, domestic and renewable clients.

The role:

  • Lead jointer within electrical jointing team, taking a supervisory role
  • Adherence to the Company’s Distribution Safety Rules (DSR) and respective Jointing Manuals in accordance with the DNO area within which the works are being completed.
  • Cable jointing – Dead and Live on DNO/IDNO and Private Networks
  • Able to work on Wavecon and PILC cables , Consac experience would be advantageous
  • Lovink capability desirable (training may be provided)
  • Installation of cut-outs (100A, 200A, 400A and 600A – HDCO/CTCO)
  • Installation of LV panels
  • Preinstallation testing of CTCO in accordance with DNO requirements and completion of associated paperwork
  • Completion of HV and LV terminations
  • Substation fit-out – including assisting with landing substation equipment on site
  • Coupling and decoupling package substations
  • Able to install substation earthing in accordance with the provided earthing design
  • Completion of work to the correct DNO/IDNO specification, and as per provided design drawings
  • Understanding of PTW and LOA requirements
  • Ability to read electrical infrastructure construction drawings
  • Ability to review and select correct materials required to complete works
  • Installation of link boxes in accordance with manufacturer and DNO requirements
  • Installation of underground plant/apparatus
  • Testing and switching on the LV Network, understanding the results of the tests and acting appropriately
  • Able to test cables and record results on appropriate test sheets
  • Preparing clear and accurate as-built drawings for jointing works
  • Full understanding of the importance of health and safety with a demonstrable ability to complete thorough site-specific risk assessments and daily activity briefings on behalf of your team
  • Maintain awareness of SHE policy and issued safety instructions
  • Advise and support the civils teams on the preparation of jointing bays
  • Maintenance of a safe working area whilst completing works
  • Maintaining a tidy work area and disposing of waste appropriately
  • Maintenance of a tidy and well organised jointer’s vehicle
  • Use of tablet to input job related information (and able to complete hard copy documents in a paper-based job pack in the event the electronic devise is not operable)
  • Use of fault-finding equipment (TDR, LV Faults sniffer and FFE equipment) would be advantageous
  • Mentoring of junior jointers, developing talent and best safety habits
  • Acting as an ambassador for the company in all works undertaken

You must:

  • Be fully trained and appropriately qualified with a minimum of 5 years jointing experience (unsupervised) on LV and HV electrical assets
  • Have experience of working alongside DNO/IDNOs/ICPs
  • Have experience of managing safety systems and associated resources
  • Have current DNO, IDNO or ICP’s authorisation for live LV jointing
  • Have HV jointing and termination experienced
  • Have sound appreciation of the operation of the electricity distribution networks
  • Have customer facing experience
  • Have completed and hold a valid substation Access certificate
  • Have valid first aid certification
  • Have an in date Manual Handling certificate
  • Have COSHH Awareness
  • City and Guilds 2304 highly valued

Work Hours and Location:

  • Monday to Friday: 0730 1730 (10hr day – door to door)
  • Weekend opportunities
  • Sites across England, typically within the south-east (UKPN and SSE areas predominantly)
  • Overnights may be required for some projects
  • Stores are based in Reading
