Building Services Engineer/Designer (Electric biased)

The role:

  • Principle point of contact with client - managing brief development and translation of solutions in easy to understand non-technical jargon
  • Ability to prepare electrical designs from concept through to detailed design, including calcs and plant/material recommendations as part of the design pack
  • Ability to manage/coordinate specialist subconsultants for a coordinated building services design solution, setting and clarifying requirements so all subconsultants are clear on brief and expectations
  • Ability to prepare necessary engineering reports to support the decision making process and validate developed design solution(s)
  • Ability to prepare and review design risk assessments in accordance with CDM requirements
  • Ability to assess designs prepared by others, test for compliance and practicality during the design phase
  • Liaise with and support our drawing team
  • On-site liaison and input throughout the build process for quality checks, conformance to design, change management etc.
  • Ability to draft project budgets and estimates as well as managing project cost
  • Participate in the business development function supporting our tendering engineer
  • Play an active role in the development of our services and operating procedures

You must be:

  • Professional, well presented, personable, experienced (5 years min)
  • Responsible
  • Appropriately qualified
  • Ability to work at a tempo and be responsive
  • Diplomatic but confident enough to ‘challenge’ where appropriate – ‘Yes’ people need not apply
  • Process driven for consistency of output but flexible enough to meet challenges which require lateral thinking
  • Familiar with Revit modelling (no requirement to be able to draw in Revit but an understanding of the principles, benefits and how to generate value from the tool)
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Analytical skills, with a solid grasp of numeracy
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Good IT skills (2D CAD required)
  • Familiar with BIM and its use in building services
  • Familiar with the RIBA stages and where our works intersect

  • Driven, a ‘go-getter’
  • ‘Will do’ mentality required, (‘can do’ – need not apply)
  • Individualist, but able to work seamlessly in a team

Place of Work:

  • Office based (partial home working considered) - ultimately output and results is the focus.
  • Site attendance as needed to meet project objectives
